I don’t know any personally-yet. The possibility interests me from a sci-fi reader’s point of view.I don’t think I would mind as long as the 3 laws were properly installed and enforced.

Question by mint: What do you think of this person?
A friend of mine, once got in an incident in which she ended up in a disagreement with someone over a literary work. This person, somehow felt that it was such a deep injury to his ego and decided to prove that he was right by placing her into several situations paralleling certain features of the story. He wanted to prove why people become “robots” and sought to socially isolate and traumatize her to understand that people suffering from repeated social isolation and rejection (decreased social ties) woudl produce “android-like” behavior that woudl be classified as unempathic and “inhumane”. As the story revolved around the nature of what constitutes a human, there was a part inteh story that addressed that schizophrenic humans and “robots” suffered from lack of empathy. The person instigating this “social experiment” wanted to make my friend feel like she was crazy, went to each of her friends, and encourged them to turn against her, and egg her on to hate people enough to shoot them. In the end, when she confronted this person, he said that he liked and that it was a “prank”. What would be your reaction if you were her?

i would report it as harassment to the police and get a (forget what its called, but a paper that says they can not come within 100 yards of you or something)
that person is mentally unstable, and i would do everything to avoid that person that i could. i would say to them you are right, i hadn’t thought about it that way and i would never speak to that person again.

Question by little bird: what do you think makes us different from programs..computers..”robots”?
almost all humans have a similiar way of doing things…some think the same, ect
this same pattern.
our body is made to do whats it’s supposed to do and “operate”
how do we know if what we think is “real”?
were we “made” to think this way? the “emotions” we feel: hate, jealousy, happiness, sadness. is that how we were programmed to feel?
when we start making completely human-like androids and they know how to portray those feelings, what will make us human?

if you think about this too hard, your head will explode (I have the scars to prove it)
the question you may want to ask yourself is this: if we have human-like androids, why should they have human feelings? shouldn’t they be allowed to develop their own feelings?
